UFCW Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

Dear Members:

As we have all seen, Hurricane Harvey has swept through the gulf coast and devastated Houston and other coastal cities and towns.  Among the millions impacted by this storm are over 15,000 hard-working UFCW members and their families.  They are in urgent need of temporary shelter, clothes, fresh food, and other daily essentials.

We know these members and their families are struggling; but rest assured, they will not struggle alone.

UFCW Local Unions and the International have already launched a fundraising drive that will provide vital financial assistance to all members impacted by this disaster.  We are working with community partners and employers to provide additional assistance.  And, we have also heard from members just like you as to what they can do to help.

If you would like to donate to the Local 455’s Membership Assistance Fund, www.ufcw.org/harvey-relief

Because of your efforts and the efforts of Local Unions across the country, the UFCW raised over $1 million to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina.  As we did then, any money raised will be distributed to members and families in need.

Thank you for helping our fellow UFCW members in this time of need, and for all you do for our union family and yours.

New Jerseyans for a Better Tomorrow : Steve Sweeney

Below is a post from the New Jerseyans for a Better Tomorrow.

Friends,

We wanted to make sure you saw the news that the American Federation of Teachers New Jersey has endorsed Steve Sweeney for reelection to the State Senate.

“Few leaders in our state have had such a positive impact on public education as Senate President Steve Sweeney,” said Donna Chiera, president of the federation, which represents 30,000 teachers, faculty and staff at universities, community colleges and K-12 school districts.

Add your name to the teachers, faculty and staff from around New Jersey standing with Steve Sweeney.>>>

Steve Sweeney is leading the fight to overcome the political obstacles blocking full and fair funding for our schools. He will continue that fight until all children across New Jersey have access to equal opportunities in education.

Stand with NJ4BT as we join teachers, faculty and staff from throughout New Jersey in supporting Steve Sweeney.>>>

In its endorsement, the federation called Steve an indispensable ally in the debates over school funding and other education issues in Trenton. “Put simply, Steve is a powerful force for public education in New Jersey.” The state’s teachers recognize that nobody fights harder for our schools and children than Steve Sweeney.

Thanks for all you do.

The 2017 Expose Walmart Tour Has Concluded

The 2017 Expose Walmart tour is a 22 state, 30+ city cross-country tour that will expose the many real stories of Walmart’s low wages, poor benefits, taxpayer-subsidized costs, and other negative community impacts. The tour kicks off in Phoenix, AZ on May 15th and ends at Walmart’s annual shareholder meeting in Fayetteville, AR on June 2nd. The tour will feature American workers, Walmart employees, community groups, elected officials, and leaders coming together to propose real solutions to the ‘Walmart-ization’ that is hurting our economy, costing taxpayers, and destroying our jobs.
